Praise for Kim Ellis and the

Sirena Writing Center

Kathleen Yeager, reading teacher

Dear Kim,
I had my snow tires taken off today. While I was waiting I started writing a new piece of creative nonfiction, shall we say. I wrote for the better part of an hour, and I have to credit your writing group wih giving me the practice and stamina to write for that length of time. Many thanks, Kim.

Dr. C. Kelemen, principal

What a beautiful article you wrote in the newsletter. How wonderful life is to lead one to a perfect fit: you as a teacher, teacher of ESL and writer...Thank you and bravo!

Pamela Reiss, former parent volunteer

As a parent volunteer, I watched firsthand Ms. Ellis magically turn second graders into authors. During Writer's workshop, Ms. Ellis created a nurturing environment that encouraged both creativity and self-reliance. The students would write, peer edit, revise and finally publish a book that they would share with the class. Each published work included a cover, a dedication page, a wonderful story and finally, a paragraph about themselves. That was quite an achievement for a 2nd grader! Most importantly, the students were extremely proud of their work and truly enjoyed the process. The credit goes to Ms. Ellis, a creative and inspiring teacher, who shares her love of writing with her students.
