As a parent volunteer, I watched firsthand Ms. Ellis magically turn second graders into authors. During Writer’s workshop, Ms. Ellis created a nurturing environment that encouraged both creativity and self-reliance. The students would write, peer edit, revise and finally publish a book that they would share with the class. Each published work included a cover, a dedication page, a wonderful story and finally, a paragraph about themselves. That was quite an achievement for a 2nd grader! Most importantly, the students were extremely proud of their work and truly enjoyed the process. The credit goes to Ms. Ellis, a creative and inspiring teacher, who shares her love of writing with her students.
